PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEP~EAS, the J.C. Penney Company began on April 14, 1902 when James <br />Cash Penney opened his first retail store in a Wyoming mining town, and will <br />mark its 100 years of being in business on April 14, 2002, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the J. C. Penney Company has grown dramatically over the <br />years, incorporating in 1913 and now operating as a family of retail <br />businesses sem-ving consumers throughout the United States, and, increasingly, <br />in international markets; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the local JCPenn~y store has been a vital part of Cabarrus <br />County for many years, opening on August 22, 1924 in downtown Concord and <br />relocating to the Carolina Mall in November 1987; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the J. C. Penney Company is celebrating its 100=h anniversary <br />and special activities are planned at the local JCPenney store on April 12, <br />2002 to commemorate this historic milestone. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />commends the J. C. Penney Company on the celebration of its 100th anniversary <br />and extends best wishes for the company's continued success in the future. <br /> <br />This the 12~ day of April, 2002. <br />/s/ Robert M. Freeman, Chairman <br />Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />OLD BUSI1T~SS <br /> <br />EXpo Project Update <br /> <br /> Mr. Mark Chappuis, Expo General Manager, presented a video narrated by <br />Mr. Mike Downs, Public Safety Services Director, showing the facilities under <br />construction at the County Expo. He also presented a letter for approval by <br />the Board to be included in the Fair Book for the 50=~ Cabarrus County Fair. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Letter as submitted <br />by Mr. Chappuis. <br /> July 2002 <br /> Dear Friends: <br /> <br /> It is with great anticipation, excitement and pride that we <br /> welcome you to the 50=" Cabarrus County Agricultural Fair, which <br /> will be held September 7 - 14, 2002, at the new and exciting <br /> Cabarrus A~ena & Events Center at the EXPO PARK, 4551 Old Airport <br /> Road, Concord. <br /> <br /> The Fair offers something for everyone, and as we embark on 'new <br /> beginnings", we invite all citizens to participate in the <br /> excitement. We hope that you will review this catalog, choose <br /> categories that interest you, and take time to enter, compete and <br /> win! <br /> <br /> We encourage you to celebrate and enjoy with us this 50t~ CABARRUS <br /> COUN~/"f FAIR. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> /s/ Robert M.
