With a rapid increase in population, new schools are being added each
year. In 2002-2003, 3 new schools will open in the county.

Our commitment is to provide ballfield construction at these new sites. This will continue the current
development that has adding 7 new ballfields at two new schools in the last 2 years.

This project also addresses the issue of overcrowding at current fields due to the high number of teams
needing practice and game times on limited field availability.

The commitment to add ballfields at the schools will increase the number of fields available for practice
and game use by the more than 2500 players on over 230 teams that are now participating in Cabarrus
County in baseball/softball. This number continues to grow annually and is one of the largest programs in
the area.

Ballfield construction, while benefiting the local parks and recreation teams, will also play an important
role in the community. These fields will be used by school teams for school play and by local recreation
teams in the evening. When not in use by the school teams or recreation teams, they are available on a first
come ftrst served basis for community teams, churches, and other groups.

Funding for these projects comes from the Cabarrus County General Fund budget. The budget reflects
additions and renovations for new facilities and existing facilities and allows for the recreation department
to continue to improve and upgrade these facilities. With government agencies experiencing shortfalls due
to unforeseen circumstances, agencies are pursuing other opportunities for money to complete projects that
they have committed to for the improvement of recreation facilities in our area.

This concept continues to show our cooperation with our local school board to utilize these facilitieS and to
work together as a team to provide facilities that can be used by both identities.

With the increase of participants rising each year, more facilities will be needed in the future so that all
participants will have a baseball functional facility for use.
