Since an unfunded South Central Piedmont RC&D application had been submitted in the past to
USDA through NRCS, the NC RC&D Association has asked Southwestern NC RC&D and
Mountain Valleys RC&D Area Coordinators to assist in re-organizing, updating and re-
submitting this application by October 1, 2002. By having a current application on file with
NRCS, we can compete for an approval from this new funding in FY 2003.

Since we are providing a meal, please contact the local Soil and Water Conservation District
Office in your county and let them know your desire to attend. A list of those county offices is
enclosed.

We will need the support of our US Congressional Representatives from this area to maximize
our authorization chances. We hope, by this invitation, that they can participate themselves or
have staff attend.

Please come prepared to participate in the re-application discussions. We will need to appoint a
RC&D Program Steering Committee with at least one representative from each county.
Signatures of the sponsoring organizations, such as the County Commissioners and the Soil and
Water Conservation Districts will be needed by September 16t~ from each county. Your local
NRCS District Conservationist can assist in this effort.

Thank you for your interest and time. Please notify your SWCD office if you plan on attending.

CC:

Matt Kinane, District Conservationist, Cabarrus & Mecklenburg Counties
Shawn Smith, District Conservationist, Gaston County
Elton Barber, District Conservationist, Lincoln County
Bruce Rider, District Conservationist, Rowan County
Renessa Hardy-Brown, District Conservationist, Stanly County
Phil Loudermilk, District Conservationist, Union County
