b. Provision: Work-related and participation expenses will be provided
by a number of suppliers of these services. The Department has
accounts with several providers of these services.
c. Location: The locations for the provision of work-related and
participation expenses are found at various places around the county.

Transportation
a. Description: Transportation for job seeking and work is an absolute
necessity for Work First recipients. If they do not have access to a
vehicle, it is the responsibility of the Work First program to provide
this service until they obtain a job, and are stabilized on that job,
which has been determined to be 30 days from the date of
employment. In some instances, the Work First recipient may have a
vehicle, and reimbursement can be made at a rate that will be set in
January 2003. As in provided transportation, reimbursement will be
made for 30 days from the date of employment. Efforts will be made
to encourage and provide incentives to car pool.
b. Provision: Presently, Cabarrus County has a coordinated
transportation system through a private provider. The system is called
Cabarrus County Transport System. Taxis are utilized as well as the
VanS.
c. Location: Transportation services are provided presently to jobs, both
in county and out of county, within a reasonable distance.

Health Support
a. Description: Health Support services at Cabarrus County DSS are
provided by social workers in the Crisis Unit and assist Work First
recipients in identifying and recognizing physical and mental health-
related needs, cope with functioning limits, provide counseling, and
securing admission to medical, drug treatment, and other health-related
facilities.
b. Provision: Assessment is done by the Crisis Unit social worker.
Services are provided by various health facilities, and providers in the
community.
c. Location: The assessment for health support is completed by the
Crisis Unit at DSS, and services take place at various locations.

In-Home Aide
a. Description: There have been instances where social work staff have
worked with Work First recipients who have needed the "hands on"
assistance of a paraprofessional in-home aide to provide guidance in
home management, personal care. With the limits on CAP and
Personal Care Services, there is the assumption that the work of an in-
home aide may become increasingly needed in the future to allow
elderly or disabled family member in the home to remain there while
the Work First recipient participates in work-related activities.

12
