NEED STATEMENT <br /> <br /> Concern for the need of quality school-age care was expressed in Cabarrus <br />County. An afterschool program was developed in 1984 in Cabarrus County <br />schools for children currently enrolled in grade's 1(-5. Today this program serves <br />900 children at 14 sites to ensure high quality af~erschool care. All sites are <br />challenged to apply for the star rating. Two sites are in critical need of additional <br />training and support that Cooperative Extension can assist with. <br /> <br /> GOAES <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County 4-H program and the North Carolina Cooperative <br />Extension Service - Cabarrus Center will provide training and technical assistance <br />to A. T. Allen 1(ids:Plus and Wolf Meadow Kids:Plus to assist in achieving a three <br />star or higher rated license through the Division of Child Development by March 1, <br />2001. The System Manager will facilitate the grant process; will deliver training <br />on licensure; will provide technical assistance throughout the process and will <br />conduct site visits to assess the progress of each program. System manager will <br />provide on-going guidance and one-on-one supporl;.to the two programs as wel~. <br /> <br /> PLAN OF ACTION <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County 4-H Program and the Cooperative Extension Service <br />will provide training and technical support to A. T. Allen Kids:'Plus and Wolf <br />Meadow Kids:Plus with the School Age Care Rated License grant. Both sites are a <br />AA licensed center and will qualify for at least a two star rating at this point. With <br />technical assistance, we will be able to move them forward with their rating. Both <br />sites will focus on staff relations with children and adults as well as indoor/outdoor <br /> <br /> <br />
