Box 707 <br />Concord, North Carolina 28026-0707 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Clifton: <br /> <br /> Referencing our conversation of January 18, 2001, please find enclosed a copy of <br />the letter sent to Secretary Sweat with the Department of Juvenile Just.ice in support of <br />the recent offer to purchase 13.878 acres of Stonewall Jackson School property fronting <br />Old Charlotte Road. The purchaser would be Rogers & Associates and Historic <br />Preservation Advisors LLC. The property would be converted to commercial use by <br />renovating the property within historical preservation stand~a_rds established by <br />Preservation North Carolina. <br /> <br /> Rogers & Associates and Historic Preservation Advisors LLC propose to acquire the <br />property and 13.878 acres of land for a purchase price of $200;000.00. They further <br />propose to include in the purchase agreement a due diligence period of one hundred <br />eighty days to allow for environmental assessments and asbestos and lead-based paint <br />surveys, submission and review with city and county planning officials the proposed <br />rehabilitation plan, review of zoning restrictions, submission of appropriate.applications <br />to the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service and the refining of <br />the development plan. We would respectfully request that the County Commissioners <br />consider supporting the Stonewall Jackson Community Advisory Council's <br />recommendation to the Department of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention by <br />adopting a resolution supporting the restoration of these properties and moving forward <br />with the sale. <br /> <br /> Thank you for your consideration of thi.q matter.
