DRAFT Lieutenant Brad Riley recocjnized Sheriff Robert Canaday who will retire on Janua~-~ 31, 2001 after 31~ years with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Deparment. Sheriff Canaday began work w/th the Sheriff's Department on July 21f 1S69. He was firs= elected Sheriff in 1982 ~ld re-elected in 1~86, 1990, 1994 ~ 1998. On behalf of the Board, Vice Chairman Carruth presented a plaque to Sheriff Canaday in appreciation for hie dedicated service to Cabarrus County and its citizens. Sheriff Canaday commented on his tenure as Sheriff and stated it had been an honor to serve the citizens of Cabarrus County. He stated his suppor~ for the appointment of Lt. Brad Riley as his successor and said he was absolutely qualified and dedicated to serving the citizens of Cabarrus County. Further, Sheriff Canaday expressed appreciation to the men and women who work for the Sheriff' s Department. Board members expressed appreciation to Sheriff Canaday for his dedicated service to Cabarrus County. Comm~ssioner Privette co~mended Sheriff Canaday on his leadership and stated he had served wi~h distinction and honor. Chairman Fennel stated it had been h~s privilege to work wi~h Sheriff Canaday and described him as a 'great' men with such characteristics as honesty, inteHrity and trustworthiness. Ne con~neuted on how Sheriff Canaclay had stood up for all County employees ~hroughout the years. Mr. Marshall recognized Me. Kelly Sifford and Mr. Rodger Lents, Caba~rus County Senior planners, for achieving membership in the ~merican Institute of Certified Planners {AICP). The AICP membership requires certain levels of education, training and experience along with s=rict adherence to a Code cf Ethics and Professional Conduct. Vice Chairman Carruth presented the certificates of Membership to Ms. sifford and Mr. Lents. Board members, congratulated them on their achievement. Recopnition of the Cabarrus County Fair - Dabble Best, County Extension Director MS. Dabble Best, County Extension Director, recognized recent successes of the 2000 Cabarr~s County ~rtcultural Fair. At the North Carolina ~sociation of A~rtcultural Fairs ~umual Convention, the Fair received the following state awards in the largest catcHery division: 1'= place Youth Award; 2~ Place overall A~ricultu~:al Fair; and .the North Carolina Department of ~ricultural ~oodness ~rows in North Carolina Award.' MS. Best recoc~ized the following Fair officials who were present for the meeting: Mr. Harold McEache~n, ~eneral Manager; Ms. Mary Ann Hamm/ll, Operations Manager; Mr. Bstus White, Fair Board President; ~ Mr. Marvin Best, Fair Board member. Mr. McEachern expressed appreciation to Ms. Best and the Cooperative Extension staff for their work on hehal£ cf the Fair. Clark, II, Chairman of the Cabarrus Democratic Executive Committee, recommending the appointment of Lt. David B. 'Brad' Riley as Cabarrus County Sheriff upon position of Sheriff with ~reat honor and looks forward to working with the Board. Sheriff Canaday again made remarks in support of Lt. Riley and his appointment to the position of Sheriff. He. stated Lt. Riley is an excellen= man who will do a ~ood job as Sheriff of Cabarrus County.
