Tm~ ][~ERGLISON GROtlP Finally, our full-time grants assistant is uniquely qualified to help local agencies secure federal competitive grants, like COPS More and other Justice Depa~haent initiatives. · Housing The Ferguson Group advocated for the Fair Housing Amendments Act through contacts at the House Subcommittee on the Constitution. The Ferguson Group advised l(ing County, WA, on the appropriate legislative strategy and communicated with national municipal organizations and key congressional stsffon behalf of the County. As a result of these efforts, King County participated in the Administration's fair housing task rome. The U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Justice, and Health and Human Services, in conjunction with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities, and National Association of Counties, as well as civil rights and other interested parties, convene this task force. The Ferguson Group secured a statutory waiver to enable the Charlotte Housing Authority and the Mecklenburg County Depa~huent of Social Services to participate in the federal Moving-to-Work program. This statutory waiver was critical to allow the housing authority to coordinate the provision of housing services with the provision of social services through the Department of Social Services. In addition to the waiver we were successful in securing $4 million in HUD appropriations for the Housing Authority's local self-sufficiency/welfare to work initiatives. In addition, The Ferguson Group is actively involved in the housing issues such as the Section 8 project reserves, Federal Housing Administration loan threshold and general funding levels for VA-HUD Appropriations. · Social Services On behalf of King County, The Ferguson Group advocated the patient bill of rights legislation, tobacco legislation, maximum I-H-IS program finding and against the proposed Medicaid cuts in the budget. The Ferguson Group assisted the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Sci'vices in its efforts to seek a grant l~om the Department of Health and Human Services for the County's project entitled, "Linking Longitudinal Data." The County was successful and awarded a grant in the mount of $100,000 to create a longitudinal database of information on Temporary Aid For Needy Families (TANF) recipients in the County. We are capable and prepared to work on affordable housing, homeless, employment and health care issues, and any other social service issue of interest to local governments and other public agencies.
