The racial breakdown is as <br />follows: 85.9 White, 11.2 Black or African American, and 2.9 Hispanic or Latino, Native <br />American, Other. In 2000, many of the minority concentration areas as well as low- <br />income concentration areas were located near the cities and towns in Cabarms County. <br />Map 1 illustrates concentrations of minority populations which were located in and <br />around the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis. (Census 1990, US Census Bureau) <br /> <br />Between 1990 and 2000, the population of Cabarms County increased from 98,935 to <br />131,063, an increase of 32.5%. Much of the increase is due to in migration as Cabarrus <br />County has benefited from the strong economic growth of Charlotte, a financial center. <br />Cabarrus County has had tremendous residential growth in both the rental and ownership <br />markets. <br /> <br />Census data from 1990 and 2000 were used in this analysis. This is due to the fact that <br />detailed census data from 2000 has yet to be released.
