OTHER.

Last year 41% of the students enrolled in our program came from families with a single parent
or from "blended" families in which remarriage has occurred. 7% lived with guardians or other
relatives. 98% of the students had no one at home in the afternoon after school. Twenty-nine percent
(29%) of our participants are on scholarship, paying no fees. The busy family schedule and economic
stress has an impact on the students.

One of the strengths of our program is that the staff is selected on the basis of professional
experience, ability to relate in a caring, supportive manner with children of this age, and the facility to
give appropriate guidance in decision making, problem solving, and behavior management. Adults
see the potential in youth, not just their problems. We are very proud of our Iow employee turnover
rate. This provides security for our students and continuity for the program operation.

The administration of the schools has given full cooperation to the program, allowing virtually
unlimited access to all facilities and equipment of the school. The communication about students has
been two-way, which promotes an atmosphere of understanding and support. This collaborative effort
allows the program to serve the students, their families and the community as a whole.

Our goal of implementing the new All Stars curriculum will aid our staff in providing guidelines
for students to model goal setting, positive and non-violent behaviors, problem solving skills, and
handling tough situations, as well as providing parents effective parenting strategies to handle unique
problems that come with the middle school age child.
