ICASARRUS COU~ j

~6RTH £AROtlNA

MEMO

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

Sherri Barnhardt, Cabarrus County_Purcha~sing--~gent.

Ron Harwood, EMS Director

Mar. 7, 2000

SUBJECT: Cannon Foundation Grant for purchase of Automatic Defibrillators

In December 1999 1 was approached by John Lamonaco of the Cabarrus County First
Responder Advisory Board. The Board had requested a grant from the Cannon
Foundation for the purchase of automatic defibrillators for all of the volunteer fire
departments in Cabarms County.

The Cannon Foundation denied that request due to the Board's lack of tax exempt status.

I was asked to apply for the grant through Cabarrus EMS since we meet the qualifications
for their grants.

If approved, the purchased defibrillators would then be forwarded to the First Responder
Advisory Board.

After conferring with John Day, Deputy County Manager, and receiving his approval, I .
applied for and received a Cannon grant for $35,000 for the requested purchase.

Upon receipt of the grant, we formally bid for the purchase of(10) defibrillators. The
Board of Commissioners awarded that bid to MedicMaster on February 21, 2000. A
purchase order was processed and the defibrillators have been received. I would now like
to request the Board of Commissioners' approval to donate this equipment to the
Cabarrus County First Responder Advisory Board for distribution to the volunteer fire
departments.

Thanks for your support throughout this project.

Emergency Medical Services
31 Willowbrook Drive · Concord, NC 28027 · (704) 786-9193
www. co.cab.nc.us
