Emergency Assistance <br /> <br />All counties must provide emergency assistance for families. <br /> <br />All county plans are limited by the following eligibility guidelines: <br /> <br /> The family must have a child who lives with a relative as defined for Work First <br /> cash assistance and who meets the age limit for Work First cash assistance. <br /> Total gross family income must be at or below 200% offederal poverty. <br /> · Family members must meet the same citizenship requirements as for Work First <br /> cash assistance. <br /> · Assistance may not be provided for any medical care, regardless of whether the <br /> participant is covered by Medicaid. <br /> · Only short-term benefits may be provided. Short-term benefits are described as: <br /> · Nonrecurring, short-term benefits designed to deal with a specific episode of' <br /> need; <br /> · Is not intended to meet recurring or ongoing needs; and <br /> · Not extending beyond four months. <br /> <br />Counties may establish requirements that are more restrictive but no more liberal than the <br />above outlined criteria. For example, counties may reduce the income limit to 150% of <br />poverty but may not set an income limit higher than 200%. <br /> <br /> . .Describe your county's procedures for determining eligibility (e. g. income limits, <br /> definition of emergency) for and providing Emergency Assistance. <br /> <br /> · What services will you provide7 <br /> <br />Services for Families with Income at or Below 200% of Poverty <br /> <br />Many Iow-income families who do not receive Work First cash assistance need support to <br />maintain self-sufficiency and avoid becoming Work First recipients, while many former - <br />Work First families need services to help them stay employed and offwelfare. To help <br />families in both of these situations, counties may choose to provide services to families <br />whose income does not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level.
