She devoted her life to the education and betterment of life <br />situations for thousands of Cabarrus County residents. <br /> <br />Doris has a real "love of learning" that she truly and freely shares with <br />people of ali ages in Cabarrus County. She enjoys teaching arid <br />working to improve the quality of family life in our county. <br /> <br />Doris was reCognized as a leader not only in Cabarrus County, but <br />within the entire state of North Carolina. She is well respected for her <br />knowledge by both her peers and the state specialist staff in Raleigh <br />and GreensbOro. <br /> <br />Several recent educational programs within the county include "Noon <br />lighting," which was a comprehensive 12 week program stressing <br />proper nutrition and weight management; "Be Active Kids" reached <br />many daycm~ centers and stressed physical activity and propor <br />nutrition for Our children. She counseled families on financial resource <br />management and provided programs for the Habitat for Humanity <br />Homeowners. "Aging with Gusto" reached senior residents with <br />health, nutrition and financial planning. <br /> <br />Doris also prOvided the leadership for a very active Extension <br />Homemaker Program. Through her guidance, the Cabarrus'County <br />clubs reached out into the community with educational programs. <br />Members were encouraged to volunteer in the community, providing <br />hundreds of hours of service and educational efforts. These members <br />have been invaluable in expanding the efforts of the Cabarrus County <br />Cooperative ~ Extension Staff. <br /> <br />Doris is an °utstanding leader within our community and we applaud <br />her efforts in changing the lives of Cabarrus County residents. <br />Congratulations to her on her retirement from the North Carolina <br />Cooperative Extension Service in the Cabarrus County Center. <br /> <br /> <br />
