O. Box 707
Concord,. NC 28026-0'~07

Dear Ms. Slack:

We have re~,iewed the pr 'elmtinary plat for Cabarrus Farms Subdivision, located on Bethel School Road. It
is our und~siandiag this plat is scheduled for review by the Planning anti Zoning Commission on
September 21, 2000. This subdivision is located in the Bethel Elementaz3' School, J. N. Fries Middle
School and Central Cabarms High School attendance areas. Although a subdivision of 192 lot~ will have
some impact on Bethel. the school currently has space to accommodate a development of this size at this
time.

However, the middle and high school serving this area are pmsentIy capped due to being over core
capaci~'. The alternate schools currently serving the new students in this area are Mt. Pleasant Middle
School and Mt. Pleasant High School At the endofthe first month enrollment at Mt Pleasant IVliddle was
722 students with a core capacity of 750 students. Mt. Pleasant High School's end of first month
enrollment was 962 with a core capacity of 1000 students. With other growth that is expected in both the
Mt. Pleasant and Central Cabarms f~eder districts, both Mt. Pleasant Middie and Mt. Pleasant High School
will most likely be over their core capacit7 by tho end of this school year. It appears that adequate middle
school space will not be availnble until the fall of 2002. This is the projected opening date for the two new
middle schools. We will open J. M. Robinson High School in the fall of 2001. At that time we will have
adequate high school capacity for future growth in the ciq' and county.

Therefore, we would respectively request ,that approval of any new subdivision be delayed until we have
adequate facilities in place to accommodate growth generated by new home construction This should
occur upon the completion of three proposed new schools and the opening of the new high school next fall.

If you need additional information or need further clarification, please contact our office.

LeonardD.
