Emphasis is placed on skill development and fundamentals. · Competitive adult athletic softball programs in conjunc- tion with USSSA. · Tennis leagues and tournaments · Athletic classes and summer camps · Road races Total Participation 8339 SPECIAL POPULATIONS/EVENTS PROGRAMS & MARKETING To enable CCPRD to concentrate its efforts on building more parks and recreatien facilities, changes were made in the overall operation of this division. After 20+ years of providing county resi- dents of all ages with quality, affordable, instruc- tional programming -- ranging from fitness and dance to the arts and magic, as well as Special Olympics and Senior Games, beginning in July 2000 CCPRD no longer offers these programs to the community. "Good homes" have been found for all these programs and they are continuing with the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department, the Cannon Memorial YMCA, Cabarrus County Schools, and the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Commis- sion. Sum-More Fun Day Camp and special events such as WestemFest, Holiday Highlight, and the Indian PowWow continue to be held at Frank Liske Park. A wide range of tasks are performed including pruning, mulching, spraying, and installation and removal of plants. Some limited construction is provided, such as . building retaining walls, installation of irrigation, drainage and pipes. Projects for 1999-2000 included: Bid package to contract mowing and turf improve- ments for all county properties · Installation of irrigation system on #3 ballfield at Frank Liske Park '~ Landscaping and construction of retaining wall at Kannapotis Library · Landscaping of Corban Avenue parking lot ° Installation of split-rail fence at Human Services and Senior Center trails ° Drainage control at W. Flowe Park This department also maintains the adult softball fields at Frank Liske Park and all athletic fields used by co-sponsoring youth associations. L*i'v'a'b'l'o C-o'rn'm'~'n'i°t'~/ B.l-u*e.p.r.i.n*t LS3P, a recreational consultant firm, has been hired to coordinate and direct the discussion of recreation/leisure in the County. The process should take approximately nine (9) months and includes a public opinion survey and opportunities for public input.
