The $1.15 <br />per mile billing rate, which has been in effect for three years, would <br />increase to $1.40 per mile. According to Mr. B~rd, the increase is a result <br />of increased gas prices and increased salary for dr/vets. <br /> <br /> There was discussion regarding the increase An cost by Laidlaw, the <br />current .transportation contract with La/dlaw and the possibility of a future <br />in-house system operation by the County. Staff will review options related to <br />future transportat/on services. <br /> <br /> UPON MOT=ON of Commissioner Barnhart, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the County Manager to si~n the <br />following E~tension Agreement on behalf of the County and adopted the budget <br /> <br />Department of Aging and social Services. <br /> <br /> SUBJECT: Extension of Transportation Service Contract <br /> <br /> This is to request that the Cabarrus County Board of <br /> Commissioners extend the contract with Laidlaw Transportation <br /> Services, Inc. The requested extension period would be from <br /> October 1, 2000 to j~ne 30, 2001. <br /> <br /> This extension period is based on the previous contracts, with <br /> the following stipulations= <br /> <br /> 1. The per-mile rate of billing will be $1.40/m/le (current rate <br /> SheS/mile) <br /> 2. ~rttcle II.G. of previous contracts {regarding County service <br /> w/th 3~ par~y vendors) will be removed. <br /> 3. Terms of the agreement w/ll be October 1, 2000 to June 30, <br /> 2001 as stated above. <br /> <br /> ~his extension will allow time for the County to prepare a <br /> revised Request for Proposal package to send out early next year. <br /> The new Transportation Coordinator positlon has been advertised, <br /> and interviews for the position will begin in the next few weeks. <br /> <br /> One of the responsibilities of this position will be analysis of <br /> <br /> the system operation, including changing contractors, and in- <br /> <br /> <br />
