O. Box 707
Concord, NC 2a026-0707

Dear Mr. Lagano:

It is our understanding that the Porters Landing Subdivision is
requesting preliminary approval for phases V & VI. This request will be
reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission for consideration on March
18, 1999. This subdivision is presently in the Rocky River Elementary, J.
N. Fries Middle, and Central Cabarrus High School attendance areas. Rocky
River Elementary School is growing rapidly due to several new subdivisions
in their attendance area. In the fall of 2000 we project the opening of the
new Harrisburg Elementary School at a greater capacity than the present
school and will be able to provide some relief to the Rocky River Elementary
School.

J. N. Fries Middle School and Central Cabarrus High School are still
capped. New students moving into this area will be assigned to either
Concord High School/Concord Middle School or Mt. Pleasant High/Middle School
as the alternate schools for the 1999-2000 school year. With the addition
of a new high school on Pitts School Road we would anticipate having
adequate high school capacity in the fall of 2001. Our middle schools will
remain over capacity unless a source of funding is identified for a new
middle school to feed into the new high school.

Again, 'thank you for providing us the opportunity to make comments'
concerning the approval of additional phases to the Porters Landing
Subdivision.

Transportation Director

RCK

cc:

Dr. Harold Winkler
Mrs. Jessie Blackwelder
Mr. Leonard Campbell

An Equal
Opportunity Employer
