The report contained study findings to date, a
summary of transit funding options in North Carolina as well as operating statistics
for transit systems from both inside and outside North Carolina.

On December 9, the third Steering Committee meeting was held at which time the
Interim Report was presented and discussed along with a survey form that we
developed to gain knowledge of community awareness and need for transit
ser,Aces. Said form has been distributed to city employees for both Concord and
Kannapolis and a modified version is being used by the Department of Social
Services and Department for the Aging for Cabarrus County to survey their entire
client base. Copies of the original survey form have been distributed to major
employers in the study area by your office.

On December 10, we interviewed Concord City Manager Brian Hiatt to assess
interest in transit services both from his perspective as we~t as that of the Concord
City Council. Mr. Hiatt was presented a copy of Report ? :umber One as well as
the survey form. The meeting went very well and Mr. Hiatt expressed Concord's
willingness to participate in both funding and, ~perating tr~:nsit services should we
produce a credible recommendation for service implemetitation. Mr. Hiatt
recommended that we interview Council member Allan Small as well as Concord
staff members Tim Louder and David Nailer, I have contacted Tim Louder's office
to set up a meeting with he and David. I will await your e!-::orts to set up the
meeting with Mr. Small. We also discussed Il, ~resentati'~n of the study to the
Concord Council during February 1999.

Engineering Ercellence Since i .21'5
