Little, Director Conceptual Design of New Park on Orphanage Road The North Cabarms Park Steering Committee has been instrumental in the design of the proposed new park on Orphanage Road. This Committee includes representatives from Cabarms County, City of Kannapolis and Church of God Children's Home: 2. 3. 4. 5. City of Kannapolis, Greg McGinnis Cabarms County Parks and Recreation Commission Chair, Bob Misenheimer Church of God Children's Home, James Griffin Frank Liske Park Supervisor, Randy Daniels Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Director, Steve Little The Committee first met on Monday, January 4, 1999. Its major tasks were (1) to interview and recommend a consultant firm to be hired and (2) to work jointly with this selected firm in the review and design of this proposed park. On February 15, 1999, Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hired Woolpert LLP to prepare a conceptual design and cost estimates for park improvements to the new park site. The scope of services included meeting with the Steering Committee on a regular basis to gather input and recommendations, site review, the development of three conceptual plans, and preparation of an estimate of probable construction costs of the selected plan. The general public has been actively involved in the decision making process through the participation of the Cabarms County Parks and Recreation Commission and the City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. Following is a brief outline of input and recommendations received for this park site: In March and April, public input was solicited on what type of recreational facilities are needed by the community.
