infomtation, and public meetings. Sixty-five letters were sent to organizations requesting public input. Staff recommendations were also requested. Over 116 recommendations for this park site were received by April 29th. From May 15 through June 30, the three recommended conceptual plans were publicly advertised for general public input by the following means: Channel 25 Cable Television, Cabarrus County web site, Cabarrus County Governmental Center, Independent Tribune and the Charlotte Observer newspapers, Kannapolis Vision Center, Cannon Memorial Libraries- Concord and Kannapolis branches. Over 139 recommendations were received concerning these three conceptual designs. On May 27, 1999, the three conceptual park designs were discussed and input solicited from the general public during a thirty-minute panel interview on Channel 25 Government Channel and rebroadcast for the following two weeks. Bob Misenheimer, James Griffin and Steve Little participated during this panel interview. On June 8, 1999, a formal public workshop was hosted by the North Cabarrus Steering Committee at the Church of God Children's Home to gather input and recommendations. Twenty-six people attended this workshop. Input/recommendations were also received from the following groups/organizations: - Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission - City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission - Concord Tennis Association - WinecoffAthletic Youth League - Odell Athletic Association - Northwest Cabarrus Baseball Association - Cabarrus Regional Chamber - Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District - Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau - Kannapolis Vision Center Play Theme Group - Cannon MemorialYMCA - David Murdock Senior Center - National Heritage Committee - Northwest Cabarrus High School On July 22 and 29, 1999, the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission and City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission reviewed and recommended the concept plan as presented by the North Cabarrus Steering Committee, and also recommended the same list of priorities the Steering Committee recommended. The first phase recommended is the entrance drive and picnic areas as described as Number 1 in the concept plan and the probable construction cost summary. The two commissions also reviewed a list of potential park names with their recommendation being "Orphanage Road Park." Woolpert LLP Consultant, Andrew Pack, will present the recommended concept plan to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners on August 30, to the City of Kannapolis on August 23 and to the Church of God Children's Home on September 9.
