b. Public Safety. Installation of the new 911 telephone system is 95% complete and is
scheduled to be finished by 15 Sep 99. The Sheriff's Department is also installing an updated fire
alarm system in its facility, which will be completed by 30 Sep 99. Emergency Medical Services rates
their Y2K preparations as 90% complete. EMS medical equipment is Y2K ready and sufficient
medical supplies are available for the transition period. Fuel resupply for emergency vehicles and
generators is still under review to ensure that fuel will be available during an extended emergency
period.

c. Emergency Power Generation. GSA has tested emergency generators at County facilities
and will test the unit at the Senior Center when it is complete. At all sites, this capability provides only
basic emergency lighting and at the Governmental Center keeps the ITS computer room operational.
Additional power for office equipment and HVAC systems is not available and will require refitting of
existing generators. The mounting of two smaller generators on trailers would provide some on-site
mobile power generation for emergency recovery operations, but this conversion is not funded.

4. Summary. In addition to the updated 1T systems and other equipment obtained, Y2K preparations
will be of benefit to the County well past the transition period. Our focus on the Y2K problem has
requked all departments to look critically at their emergency operations planning. The steps taken to
ensure Y2K readiness will also increase our overall readiness to respond to the more likely hazards we
have to face, such as the effects of severe weather or industrial accidents.
