LCASAR USCOU ]

NORTH CABOLINA

MEMORANDUM

To: Frank Clifton Jr.

From: Blair Bennett /'~

Date: October 5, 1999

Subject: Purchase of Election Equipment

The Board of Elections requests that the Board of Commissioners consider purchasing
used tabulators from counties which are declaring these tabulators surplus. This is a
unique opportunity to purchase used tabulators at $4,000 versus paying $7,500 for new
ones later. The Board of Elections has acknowledged that they plan to continue using our
present system for the next five to eight years. To have additional backup and to provide
for precincts which will possibly split, approximately 25 tabulators are requested. The
Board of Elections currently has $22,500 available within their budget but would need an
additional $77,500 to purchase all the tabulators requested. I have attached the budget
amendment necessary should the Board of Commissioners approve this request.

Finance Department
c=~ BOX 707 *
.... '~oncord.
