Cabarrus Reoonal Chamber of Commerce
Partnerships for Planning, ~Progress, Prospen'~y.

November 16, 1999

The Honorable Jeff Barnhart, Chairman
Cabarrus County Commission
2149 Kannapolis Highway
Concord, NC 28027

Dear Chairman Barnhart:

The Cabarms Regional Chamber of Commerce, in accordance with the legislation
that formed the Cabarrus County Tourism Authority in 1989 and amended in the 1999
session, is recommending a candidate for consideration to serve a three-year term.

We recommend that JeffAustin be re-appointed for another term. Mr. Austin has
been a valuable member of the Authority and with the critical issues that may be
addressed, primarily the possible construction ora convention center, we feel that his
knowledge and history on this subject will be essential. His business expertise and
unique perspective of dealing with the public in a hospitality-related industry have proven
to be a great asset to the Authority and we request that an exception to the two-term
guidelines be considered.

In accordance with your current policy of providing three names, we would also
recommend that Phyllis Beaver, Public Relations and Marketing Director for Cannon
Village, and Aubie Cook, Regional Manager for Hampton Inn, be considered should the
Board of Commissioners decide not to re-appoint Mr. Austin.

TWD/bfw
cc: Mark Shore
Frank Clifton
239 t Dale Eamhardt Bottle,rd
l~annapolis, North C.'u'olina 28083
704.782.4000 Phone
704.782.4050 Fax
e-mail: chambe~nail@cabamtsregionalco~: org
visR our tt 'eb site: tt 'u,tt: cabamtsregionalcoc org

Thank you for your consideration of this request and please contact me if you
have any questions.

D~/yvault
President
