Memo <br />To: Board of Commissioners //~/ <br />From: John Day, Deputy County ManagerL.~'~,u' <br />Date: February 11, 1998 <br /> ! <br />Re: Cable Television Ordinance and Franchise Update <br /> <br />The following four changes have been made to the to the Cable Television <br />Ordinance and Franchise Agreement by Time Warner Cable since the first <br />reading: <br /> <br />1. The maximum distance for a standard (i.e., no additional charge) installation <br /> was reduced from 300 feet to 150 feet. <br />2. The provision requiring Time Warner to produce local programming on the <br /> local access channel was removed. <br />3. The requirement for activation of an emergency alert system within 12 months <br /> of the effective date of the franchise agreement is changed to within 12 <br /> months of the adoption of emergency alert system rules by the FCC. <br />4. The Cannon Memorial Library, Concord Branch, was added to the <br /> government INET. <br /> <br />Bob Melton, Time Warner Cable General Manager, has indicated in a letter <br />(attached) that despite item numbers 1 and 2 above, local policy will include a <br />standard maximum installation distance of 300 feet and continuation of local <br />programming on the local access channel. <br /> <br />Please contact me if you have any questions. <br /> <br /> Office of the County Manager <br />P.
