NORTH CAR6LINA

Memo

To:
From:

Date:
Subject:

Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners /~b~
Goldia Cruse - Advisory Board Chairperson >3~-
Michael L. Murphy - Director
March 3, 1998
Resolution
North Carolina Department of Commerce - Energy Division

Enclosed please find a copy of a Resolution to the North Carolina Department of
Commerce - Energy Division regarding the reinstatement of the Cabarrus County
Department of Aging's Weatherization Assistance Program as a direct contract agency to
the State of North Carolina. We are asking to receive a contract directly from the
Department of Commerce and no longer be considered a sub-contractor of the
Salisbury-Rowan Community Service Council.

The Energy Division has a new director and he has acknowledged that them are
problems within the division. He has indicated that they are currently considering
modifications to the structure and/or some reorganization within the Energy Division.
We believe that the timing is right for us to take action and make a formal request for
the Division of Commerce to reconsider our situation.

Therefore, on behalf of the Cabarrus County Department of Aging's' Advisory Board, we
respectfully request that you adopt this Resolution and process it through the proper
channels to the North Carolina Department of Commerce for their consideration. This
Resolution received unanimous support from our Advisory Board. We are convinced
that we will be able to provide a higher level of service to our clients if we can deal
directly with the Energy Division instead of functioning as a sub-contractor to an agency
that has no vested interest in the citizenry of Cabarrus County.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Department of Aging

P.
