HUNT JR. <br />GOVERNOR <br /> <br /> EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br /> 1998 <br /> <br />BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />A PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina's Emergency Medical Services system is a vital public service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the members of the Emergency Medical Services team are ready to provide life sustaining <br />care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during the past thirty years, the quality of emergency care has dramatically improved the <br />survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, North Carolinians benefit daily from the dedicated efforts, knowledge and skills of the <br />emergency medical team: technicians; paramedics; emergency nurses; emergency physicians; rescue squad <br />workers; fh'e fighters; public safety telecommunicators; public information, education and relations specialists; <br />emergency vehicle maintenance technicians; administrators; educators and others who received specialized training <br />and continuing education to enhance and maintain their lifesaving skills; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, injury prevention and the appropriate use of the Emergency Medical Services system will <br />help reduce health care costs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to recognize the value and accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services teams, we set <br />aside a special period to observe the contributions of these men and women to our people and state; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, 1, JAMES B. HUNT JR., Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby <br /> proclaim May 17-23, 1998, as "EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK" in North Carolina, and call upon <br />· all citizens to observe this period with appropriate programs and activities. <br /> <br /> IN WITNE <br />Carolina at the Capitol <br /> <br /> JAMES B.
