RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br /> FOR <br />PROTECTION OF CLARKE CREEK WATERSHED <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners supports efforts to protect <br />water quality and natural heritage sites in Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners previously adopted a <br />watershed management plan for Coddle Creek and encouraged the implementation of this <br />plan in watersheds throughout Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS Clarke Creek was one of two streams selected in the lower Yadkin River <br />Basin by the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin Association for stream restoration efforts; and <br /> <br />WI-IEREAS the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners previously supported a grant <br />application by the Land Trust for Central North Carolina to the Clean Water <br />Management Trust Fund for funds to acquire wetlands on Clarke Creek; and <br /> <br />WlqrEREAS the protection of these wetlands on Clarke Creek is dependent on the <br />protection of water quality in Clarke Creek watershed; and <br /> <br />WI~E~REAS a regional approach to protecting Clarke Creek is necessary because its <br />watershed lies in both Cabarms and Mecklenburg counties; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin Association is currently seeking to obtain <br />funding from North Carolina's Clean Water Management Trust Fund for the purposes of <br />restoring streambanks along Clarke Creek and its tributaries; and <br /> <br />Wl~EREAS both the Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors <br />and the Cabarms County Watershed Improvement Commission have already passed <br />motions of support for the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin Association's efforts to protect <br />the Clarke Creek watershed; <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners hereby passes this resolution of support for the Yadkin-Pee Dee River <br />Basin Association in both its application to the Clean Water Management Trust Fund and <br />its ongoing efforts to protect the Clarke Creek watershed. <br /> <br />Passed this day of ., 1998 <br /> <br />Chairperson, Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br /> <br />
