( .j Work First Transportatiol,~drant I am writing to request that the Board of Commissioners grant permission, at its 12-21-98 meeting, for the Department to apply for a renewal of the $14,577 Work First/- Employment Transportation Assistance grant it received initially last year. No matching funds are required for this grant. Transportation is a barrier to entering and maintaining employment for many welfare recipients. This grant funding is thus helpful as it allows us to purchase transportation for an additional two months for many persons who are entering work. Attached are the related materials as follows: 1) Agenda cover sheet 2) My cover letter to the grantor 3) Our grant narrative, "FY 98-99 Work First / Employment Transportation Assistance" 4) The "Applicant Seeking to Apply..." form 5) Grant application invitation materials under an 11-13-98 DOT letter After Board action, the Applicant Seeking to Apply form will need to be completed and signed by the Chairman. One other item we need to submit with our application is the "Statement of Commitment for Formula Allocation" form. You, Mike Byrd, and I need to sign offon that. We have sent it to Mike with a request he get it to you on Monday. The stated deadline for submission of our materials is 12-18-98. However, we have been advised by DOT staffthat owing to our Board's meeting schedule, submitting our materials after the 12-21-98 Board meeting will be fine.
