FY 1998-99
Work First/Employment
Transportation Assistance

$1 Million Allocation - Cabarrus County Proposal for Services

1. Proposed Service Provider: Cabarms County Department of Social Services

Proposed transitional/Work First and/or general public transportation service to
be provided: Through the use of available funds, Cabarms County Department of
Social Services will continue to provide transportation services to applicants in order
to provide the opportunity to become employed as quickly as possible. With our
efforts to have applicants register for 1~t Stop, we have identified a need to provide
ongoing transportation to enable and enhance employment from the point of'
application through the beginning of'transitional benefits. This increases our
traditional spending for approximately two (2) months. This allocation would allow
us to meet this need and assist welfare recipients in overcoming their transportation
barrier fi.om the time that they apply for public assistance. With the low
unemployment rate in Cabarrus County, we should be able to decrease the number of
months a person receives public assistance by providing transportation fi.om the point
of entry. By continuing transportation for thirty (30) days at~er cash assistance is
terminated, recipients will have time to plan for that point in time when they will not
be able to avail themselves of this benefit.

Amount of funds requested: $14,577.00

4. Marketing/Advertising: Not applicable

5. Proposed sub-county allocation: None

County Contact: Ms. Fran C. O'Connor Employment Services Supervisor
Cabarms County Department of Social Services
1303 South Cannon Boulevard
Kannapolis, NC 28083

Phone: (704) 939-1400
