Box 707 Concord, N.C. 28026-0707 Dear Mrs. Casper: At its January 13, 1997 meeting the Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education unanimously passed the enclosed re'solution requesting as per North Carolina law that the Cabarrus County and the Rowan County Commissioners approve its request to grant the Kannapolis City Board of Education approval to provide compensation to its members in the amount of $300 per month for the chairman and $200 per month for the other four members. The Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education has not been compensated in the past although nearly 90% of boards of education in North Carolina do receive compensation. Both our neighboring school systems, Cabarrus and Rowan, do provide compensation to members. Please note that we are not requesting additional funds but only the permission to provide the compensation from our 1996-97 current expense budget and subsequent budgets. We have enclosed from the North Carolina School Boards Association some current information regarding payment to boards of education in North Carolina. As you see, our request is appropriate compared to compensation for other North Carolina school boards. We would respectively ask that this be placed on the agenda for your next meeting.
