RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE <br />EXCELLENT SCHOOLS ACT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Excellent Schools Act has been introduced in the North Carolina Senate <br />(Senate Bill 272) and in the North Carolina House of Representatives (House Bill 351); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Excellent Schools Act represents a comprehensive effort to improve the <br />public schools in North Carolina; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Cabarrus County serves as a major partner in the public education system, <br />contributing its share of funding to elementary and secondary schools; and <br /> <br /> Wlt'EREAS, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance that <br />all children have the opportunity for a high quality education to better prepare them for the future; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners further recognizes that well-trained, highly <br />qualified teachers are essential in providing the educational opportunity that each child deserves; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the major components of the Excellent Schools Act include the following: <br />Raising academic standards in reading, writing and math; Raising standards and accountability for <br />teachers; and Providing higher pay for performance to teachers. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby endorse the Excellent Schools Act and encourage its enactment by the <br />North Carolina General Assembly. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 21st day of April, 1997. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Sue Casper, Chair <br />Cabarms County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />Frankie F.
