Box 1645 <br />Concord, North Carolina 28026-1645 <br /> <br />April 15,1997 <br /> <br />Dear Planning Team Member: <br /> <br />As a member of the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children Planning Team, you have an oppommity to play an <br />important role in the future of our young children and their families. Your ideas about our problems and solutions <br />to these problems will be incorporated into our application to the state for Smart Start funding for Cabarrus County. <br />Each of you provides a meaningful perspective on the issues that relate to our children. <br /> <br />We are asking you to make a commitment to understand the concept of Smart Start and. to participate in its <br />successful implementation. Smart Start targets children fi:om birth to age five to ensure they come to school heal,thy <br />and ready to learn. Please review the enclosed draft of our application and return it along with your comments and <br />a letter of support. Your letter should be addressed to the Govemor at the following address: The Honorable James <br />B. Hunt, Jr., Governor, State of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC 27611. <br /> <br />Please keep in mind that we have been on a tight schedule since receiving the grant request and this is a working <br />draft and is not intended to be complete at this point. Please point out any significant issues we may have <br />overlooked and let us know if there are any issues that may not have been given adequate consideration. Also, <br />Please review the Planning Team list which includes your name in Addendum lA and make any needed additions <br />or corrections. <br /> <br />Because the grant application must be in Raleigh on May 1st, we will need your responses by this Monday, April <br />21 st. You may drop them off at the Cannon Memorial Library, the Madam Cannon Hayes Family Center Lobby, <br />or mail them to Post Office Box 1645, Concord, NC 28026-1645. If you have any questions, please call any of the <br />draft writers listed below. <br /> <br />Thank you again for agreeing to participate on the Planning Team of the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children. <br />When Cabarrus County receives Smart Start funding, you will be asked to elect an ongoing board to implement our <br />goals and objectives.
