An undetei-mined amount of waste will continue to be <br />transferred outside of the County for disposal. The actual quantities are <br />difficult to estimate at this time because the County has not selected which <br />collection and disposal option it will use following the closure of the landfill in <br />December, 1997. <br /> <br />Disposal of Solid Waste <br />Current Program: The County operates a landfill which accepts residenfial <br />and C&D waste from the unincorporated areas of the County. The landfill <br />also accepts residential waste from the City of Kannapolis and the Towns of <br />Harrisburg and Mount Pleasant. <br /> <br />Intended Action~. The County will close the landfill in December, 1997. <br />Several waste disposal options are under consideration by the County <br />including a transfer station and contracting with private hauling and disposal <br />companies.
