Residents residing in the unincorporated areas, the City of <br />Kannapolis and the Town of Harrisburg must bring their batteries to the <br />landfill for drop off. Batteries are taken from the landfill by a private <br />company, Battery Plus, from Charlotte, North Carolina. <br /> <br />Intended Action~.. The County will evaluate the battery collection program <br />when a new waste collection and disposal option is selected. <br /> <br />Used Motor Oil <br />Current Program: Mount Pleasant will pick up used motor oil and take it to <br />the County landfill. Residents residing in the unincorporated areas, the City of <br />Kannapolis and the Town of Harrisburg must bring their used motor off to the <br />landfill for drop off. Used motor oil is taken from the landfill by a private <br />firm, Resource Recovery, from Charlotte, North Carolina. <br /> <br />Intended Action~. The County will evaluate the used motor oil collection <br />program when a new waste collection and disposal option is selected. <br /> <br />Household Hazardous Waste <br />Current Program: Neither the County nor the municipalities provide <br />household hazardous waste collection or disposal services. <br /> <br />Intended Actions.. There are no plans by the County or the municipalities to <br />implement a household hazardous waste collection and disposal program due <br />to the prohibitive cost. <br /> <br />Prevention of Illegal Disposal and Management of <br />Litter <br />Illegal Disposal- Operated Sites <br />Current Program: The City of Kannapolis has a moderate problem with <br />illegal disposal. The City investigates illegal disposal and assesses civil <br />penalties. The County and the Towns of Harrisburg and Mount Pleasant <br />consider illegal disposal a minor problem and use the Sheriffs Department to <br />investigate. <br /> <br />Intended Actions.. Current programs will remain in effect. <br /> <br />Litter Management and Promiscuous Dumping <br />Current Program: The County currently has no governmental litter <br />management program.
