These PC's can s,~:ve as reolacements for PC's we have at ~he Department. The PC's we replace could be transferred to the Count3/to ~ave the Cost of some ofthe approximately 100 new PC'~ the County has planned 1;0 purchaie in the coming year. Attached are the foLlowing background materials: l) A Memo of 4-17-97 from Ron Aycoek of the Commissioners Association and Secretar3, David Bruton of DH~ explaining the joint efforts of their organizations to arrange a purchase of computer equipment for departments of social servioes under a 75% federal-funded child welfare automation project called SAQ~hqS, 2) A Memo from DHR dated $-30-97 announcing a briefing 6-9o97 £or county DSS staffon the State's SACWlS equipment purchase plan, 3) A Memo from DHR dated 6-2-97 outlining the $200,000 in equipment Cabarrus County may purchase under this program, and 4) A list of PC's we would replace at the Department if we are able to purchase 54 new machines. I attended the county briefing o£6-9-97. I learned the follov~: 1) The purchase of equipment must be completed with equipment delivered by 9- 30-97 to receive the 75% federal match. (There is an option to have the State purchase lhe equipment and deduct the 25% county match from our monthly administrative reimbursement. Because we would loose control of the purchase, lhis is not a desired option). 2) Counties may purchase from State contracts so that a local bid process will not be required. ................ ..........................
