DETAILED OPERATIONS <br /> <br /> Stanley Works' distribution operations in the past was a "paper" environment. However, <br />in the age of Radio Frequency (RF), Automated Data Collection (ADC), bar code scanning, <br />Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and automated <br />conveyor systems; Distribution Centers no longer need paper. In effect Stanley has created a <br />"paperless" warehousing operation. <br /> <br /> Stanley Works' new distribution center in Kannapolis, NC, just outside of Charlotte, has <br />installed a Warehouse Management System which interfaces with an SAP order-processing <br />system, a transportation planner, a parcel-shipper system, an RF scanner system and an <br />automated conveyor net~vork. <br /> <br /> The automated conveyor network, known as the cross-belt sorter, is the first of its kind <br />within the United States. Automation enables Stanley to upgrade its operations to increase its <br />customer service capabilities. To explain, Stanley currently operates its distribution operations <br />with "real-time" information. The RF capability allows the WMS to constantly update. <br />informational databases where a specific product is located at all times. Overall there are over <br />130 PC's within the DC, making operations virtually "paperless." <br /> <br /> <br />
