368 <br /> <br />DRAFT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Kevfn Pugh served Cabarrus County and lts citizens as <br />a Deputy in the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department until his <br />untimely death; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the family of Kevtn Pugh through their generosity, <br />wish to perpetuate the memory of Kevin Fugh by establishing a trust <br />fund with Cabarrus County to award outstanding officers within the <br />Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Cabarrus County agrees to maintain and administer the <br />trust fund and awards. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners for Cabarrus County <br />does hereby determine and resolve the following: <br /> <br /> 1. The County shall establish throu§h a donation from the <br />family of Kevin Pugh the KEVIN PUGH OUTSTANDING OFFICER AWARD <br />PROGRAM. <br /> 2. The donation shall be placed in a separate interest bearing <br />money market account, or similar account, to be maintained and <br />administered by the Cabarrus County Finance Department. <br /> 3. The interest earned by the trust fund account shall fund <br />the award program which shall recognize outstanding performance and <br />service to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department and citizens of <br />Cabarrus County. <br /> a. Each year two awards in the amount of approximately $500.00 <br />(depending on interest earned by the trust fund account) shall be <br />given to officers of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department. One <br />award shall be made to an outstanding first-year officer, and the <br />second award shall be made to an outstanding senior officer. <br /> 5. The selection of the award recipients shall be made by a <br />committee comprised of the Sheriff, the Chief Deputy and Captain of <br />the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, with input from all <br />division or squad supervisors. Criteria considered by the committee <br />shall be performance evaluations, outstanding individual effort, <br />attitude, demeanor and dedication to the office of Deputy Sheriff. <br /> 6. The awards shall he-made in July of each year and the <br />officers shall receive the award through the normal county payroll. <br /> 7.
