INTERVIEWS RE MERGER STUDY <br /> REPRESENTATIVES OF BOARDS OF EDUCATION: <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY SCHOOLS <br /> KANNAPOLIS CITY SCHOOLS <br /> ROWAN COUNTY SCHOOLS <br /> and <br />REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE CABARRUS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />Monday, August 4, 1997 A.L. Brown High School/Media Center <br /> <br />Representative membership of the Boards of Education for Cabarrus County Schools, <br />Kannapolis City Schools, Rowan County Schools, and the Cabarms County Commissioners <br />met on Monday, August 4, 1997, at A. L. Brown High School/Media Center at 1:00 p.m. to <br />interview The Welkin Group, Inc. regarding a merger study involving the three school <br />systems. <br /> <br />Those persons in attendance were: <br /> <br />Cabarms County Schools: <br /> <br />Board Chair Grace Mynatt <br />Board Vice Chair Bob Andrews <br />Wayne Williams <br />Dr. Harold Winkler, Superintendent <br /> <br />Kannapolis City Schools: <br /> <br />Board Chair Lee Efird <br />Linda Johnson <br />Dr. Ed Tyson, Superintendent <br /> <br />Rowan County Schools: <br /> <br />Board Chair Stan Welch <br />Dr. Joe McCann, Superintendent <br /> <br />PRELIMINARY PROPOSAL RE MERGER STUDY BY THE WELKIN GROUP, INC. <br />Dr. Wayne Trogdon, Team Leader for The Welkin Group, Inc., presented a proposal for a merger <br />study for the aforementioned school systems. Dr. Trogdon distributed a proposal and reviewed <br />the contents of the proposal with the members at the meeting. Dr. Trogdon emphasized that the <br />purpose of any school system, merged or not, is to educate children. Careful, objective analysis <br />must be given to each component on which a school system is built to make sure that it produces <br />results for children. Any political decision will eventually appear to be the wrong one if this <br />essential first step is not carefully implemented. <br /> <br />The following steps for completion of a study were described: <br />1. The Study--Methodology of Research Phase <br /> 80 people will be interviewed which would include parents, principal's, teachers, <br /> school board members, business and political leaders, county commissioners, city <br /> council members, superintendents, and other central office staff from the affected <br /> systems. <br /> <br /> <br />
