July 7, 1997

Mr. Alvin M. Stanford, County Extension Director
N. C. Cooperative Extension Services
Cabarms County Center
Post Office Box 387
Concord, North Carolina 28026

Dear

As we have discussed, the County intends to sell the property now occupied by Social Services and
your fa 'cflities. Late in the spring of 1998, the Social Services and Health Departments will be moving
into new facilities located in Kannapolis. We need to pursue options related to a peimanent future
home for your operations.

The Landfill Alternative Use Study led by David Ooffhighlighted potential for the County's soon-to-
be phased out landfill property. I would like for you and your staffto develop a plan that would
evaluate the current landfill site's potential as it relates to the Cooperative Extension Service. Please
keep in mind that there is a high probability that recreational uses will also be proposed for the
property along with some continuing use of the site for waste recycling activities.

Understand that the County Commission has not taken any formal action on this issue as of yet.
However, your efforts could be the foundation for establishing the future direction for use of the old
landfill property.

Your assistance and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

FWC/sb
cc: Board of Commissioners
Fletcher L.
