Byerly <br />Assistant Superintendenl <br /> <br />January 5, 1996 <br /> <br />Summary of Facilities 1 O-Year Needs Assessment for Department of Public Instruction <br /> <br /> A brief description of each school site is.presented to provide some details for the site projects. <br />All information is for planning purposes and would be subject to changes in conditions. Board of <br />Education actions will determine the execution of all projects. <br /> <br /> $ 3,490,998 A. L. Brown High School: <br /> 31,500 square feet for moderate renovations. This includes making small sub-standard <br /> classrooms of approximately 600 ft2 into standard classrooms by converting groups of 3 classrooms into <br /> 2 classrooms and 4 classrooms into 3' classrooms. <br /> 7,000 square feet for major renovations. This is the completion of the unfinished ground floor <br /> on the 1995 science wing. <br /> 47,000 square feet for air conditioning. This is Bullock gym. <br /> Asbestos abatement. Removal of the asbestos from the Cannon cafeteria building. This <br />· building will be used for instructional space. <br /> Handicapped accessibility. Elevator in 1995 science wing and other ADA upgrades. <br /> Site Development. Completion of site landscaping, physical education fields, traffic controls. <br /> Energy conservation. Upgrade of energy systems for economic efficiency. Projects include <br /> lighting, HVAC controls, and window replacements in the music and vocational buildings. <br /> Roof replacement. This is replacement of the roof on the vocational building. <br /> Computer network cabling. This is typical in all sites. <br /> <br />$2,458,909 Kannapolis Middle School: <br /> Classroom Addition: This project will expand the capacity of the middle school to allow the <br />movement of the 6th grades from the elementary schools to the middle school. <br /> Minor renovations: This includes conversion of some spaces in the present building. The <br />project is related to the addition of the new wing. <br /> <br />Note: While the state survey computer program gives this site an estimated cost of $2,458,909 for the <br />complete Kannapolis Middle School project, this estimate is based on an average square foot cost of <br />$89.00. We believe that this wing can be built .for less.
