Bakers Creek Park / Greenway Bakers Creek Park: a beautiful 38 acre facility espe- cially nice for family reunions, comparry outings, and church picnics, is located at 1275 West A Street in Kannapolis. Each of the three shelters is 30' x 70' and will seat 200 visitors. The shelters are equipped with lights, electrical receptacles, water, large grills, horseshoe pits, and ping pong tables. Sports equipment, such as horseshoes, basketballs, and volleyballs may be signed out at no charge with a shelter reservation. There are also individual picnic sites located throughout the park, all equipped with grills. The largest picnic site will seat up to 40 visitors. The play area was recently remodeled with new equip- ment added. Most popular is the structure with 4 slides, including one large spiral slide. The climbing structures and small bridge enhance th~ piece, Other favorites are the new back hoe digger and bus bouncer. Sand toys are also avail- able to be signed out at the park concession stand. The Miniature Golf course provides entertainment for · all ages. It is located near the park office and restrooms. The park also has a small concession area which usually serves pizza, popcorn, candy, drinks and more. Favorites at Bakers Creek Park are volleyball, basket- ball, and softball. The fields are utilized by church groups, leagues, and individuals and may be reserved. The area is equipped with lights for night play April through August. The Park also offers tennis play year round. There are four well lighted courts just as you enter the park. Camping is also available for any group or organization. This is primitive tent camping alongside a small waterfall. The three sites can hold 25 tents and are well shaded with beautiful trees and wildflowers. The natural spring located near the tennis courts adds historical value to the park as it was built in the 1800's. There is a trail with steps leading down to the site overlooking a creek. There are three trails that visitors enjoy when coming to Bakers Creek Park. The science trail has been made infor- mative sigh signs and plaques. Guided tours are available as well as information on the many trees and plant life on this trail. The 1/2'mile trail can be a short cut to the newly paved grecnway trail. It's a Iovcly trail with wildlife, bridges, and benches for rest. Bakers Creek Park is truly a unique park as it is jointly funded by two county governments, Cabarrus and Rowan, and by the City of Kannapolis. This is the first time such a joint effort to provide recreational services has been under- taken in thc state of North Carolina.
