Before we can implement these projects we must establish the Governmental Center Local Area <br />Network communications backbone. Fortunately the wiring and wiring closets within the building are <br />sufficient to handle network traffic. We have already purchased the 8272 token ring switch and 8230 <br />control access units needed for the computer room and basement wiring closet. The 8230 equipment listed <br />above will be placed in the remaining four wiring closets and at the Board of Elections. Once this <br />equipment is in place, each wiring closet will have the capacity to support 19 PC workstations. <br /> <br /> Proposed Phase Schedule <br /> Phase L APRIL - JUNE 1996 <br /> 1. Install token ring switch in computer room. <br /> 2. Install 8230 network controlled access units in each phone closet. <br /> 3. Purchase data/application/mail server. <br /> 4. Install and configure server. <br /> 5. Configure all LAN attached PCs for access to new server. <br /> · Upon completion of this phase governmental center personal computers will be able to: <br /> ~ connect to the LAN. <br /> ~ Send and receive internal electronic mail. <br /> = Save space on their PC by storing data on a centralized server. <br />Phase IL JULY - OCTOBER 1996 <br /> 1. Upgrade user PC hardware and software where needed to attach to LAN. <br /> 2. Purchase and install network cards. <br /> 3. Configure PCs and network for access. <br /> 4. Connect PCs to the LAN. <br /> 5. Train new LAN users. <br />Phase IV. AUGUST - OCTOBER 1996 (OUT SOURCE) <br /> 1. Install network security firewall. <br /> 2. Install and configure Intemet Server. <br /> 3. Train LAN users in use of Intemet. <br /> · Upon completion of this phase personal computers attached to the LAN will be able to: <br /> = Send and receive external electronic mall <br /> ~ Navigate the Intemet for information. <br />Phase V. JANUARY 1997 - APRIl, 1997 <br /> 1. Install and configure Forms Flow application. <br /> 2. Train LAN users in use of Forms Flow. <br /> Upon completion of this phase personal computers attached to the LAN will be able to: <br /> ~ Send and receive forms: i.e. PO requests, travel reimbursements. <br />Phase VI. APRIL 1997 - JUNE 1997 <br /> 1. Install and configure internal Web server application. <br /> 2. Train LAN users to browse information on internal Web server. <br /> 3. Train LAN users on how to provide information on the internal Web server. <br /> · Upon completion of this phase personal computers attached to the LAN will be able to: <br /> = View the current personnel ordinance and other frequently updated <br /> Personnel data. <br /> ~ Provide information to other LAN users. <br />Phase VII. APRH. 1997 - JUNE 1997 (OUT SOURCE) <br /> 1.
