· Animal Control Officer II positions would be reallocated to Deputy Sheriff positions <br />once law enforcement officer certification is secured. The North Carolina requirements include: <br /> <br /> Medical examination <br /> Psychological testing . ..~- . <br /> C~minal background check <br /> Financial background check <br /> Basic Law Enforcement Training <br /> <br /> · Transition from Animal Control Officer Ils'to Deputy Sheriffs would take approximately <br />one year due to the necessity for staggered enrollment in the Basic Law Enforcement Training. <br /> <br /> · Upon certification as a law enforcement officer and being swom in as a deputy sheriff, <br />the Animal Control Officer II would be promoted to the Deputy Sheriff job classification and <br />receive commensurate pay. <br /> <br /> · Failure of an Animal Control Officer II to become a certified law enforcement officer <br />will prevent him or her from being classified as a Deputy Sheriff. <br /> <br />- Any Animal Control Officer II failing the medical/physical testing and/or <br /> financial background check would be considered for continued employment <br /> as a civilian employee (Animal Control Officer) with the Sheriffs Department. <br /> <br />- Any Animal Control Officer (including the Animal Control Superviso0 <br /> failing to pass the criminal background checks, and/or the psychological <br /> testing would be subject to separation from employment. <br /> <br /> · Current residency of Animal Control employees will not be the basis for any personnel <br />decision(s) made by the Sheriff <br /> <br />· As deputies, the ex-animal control officers would be subject to: <br /> <br />- Working 171 hours in the four week (28 day) law enforcement <br /> pay period without overtime liability under the Fair Labor Standard Act. <br /> <br />- Responding as backup for deputies in the Patrol Division, when <br /> circumstances dictate. <br /> <br />- Working rotating shifts. <br /> <br />- Continued membership in the North Carolina local Governmental <br /> Employees' Retirement System plus eligibility for special law <br /> enforcement benefits. <br /> <br />Attachment Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
