NCACC Conference Memo
P. O. Box 1488, Raleigh, NC 27602-1488 * (919) 715-2893

Important Registration Information for
1997 Legislative Goals Conference

January 9-10, 1997
Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Research Triangle Park, NC (Durham County)

To: Commissioners, Managers, Clerks to the Board, Attorneys, Affiliate Presidents,
and COG Directors

Date: Novembei' 4, 1996

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The 1997 Legislative Goals Conference of the N.C. Association of County Commissioners will be held on
January 9-10, 1997 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center off of 1-40 in Research Triangle
Park. The purpose of the conference is to bring together county officials from across the state to vote on pro-
posed legislative goals for the 1997 and 1998 sessions of the General Assembly.

A package of proposed goals will be mailed out to county officials about four weeks prior to the Conference,
along with a copy of the revised voting procedures. Voting delegates will be selected by each county to vote
on the goals. IMPORTANT: If you are not a voting delegate, you are still urged to attend the conference and
participate in discussion.

PRE-VOTING DISCUSSION PERIOD

A two-hour non-voting discussion period has been set aside from 10:00 a.m. until noon on January 9. The
intent of this session is to allow county officials, including new commissioners, to ask questions in an open,
non-voting atmosphere. Those with specific questions or concerns should plan to arrive by 10:00 a.m. The
actual voting conference, which begins after lunch, will also have time built in for discussion and questions,
but new commissioners found this non-voting period extremely helpful two years ago.

ABOUT THE MEETING FACILITY

The Sheraton Imperial is a top-rated, full service hotel located immediately off of 1-40 between Durham and
Raleigh. You take the Page Road exit off of 1-40. The hotel rises above the trees just south of this exit.
Please keep in mind the following:

1. Official check-in time is NOT UNTIL 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is NOON. It is likely that some
rooms will be ready for check-in before 1:30 p.m., but some may not be ready and you will have to check in
during the break between the conference and the reception (5:00-6:00 p.m.).

2. The sleeping room rate is $82.00 single or double occupancy plus 11 percent tax. Club level rooms are
$128 single/S138 double.
