Ronald Aycock, Executive Dkector <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Legislative Goals - 1995 <br /> <br />DATE: December 2, 1994 <br /> <br />Enclosed are copies of 55 Legislative Goals approved by the Board of Directors for consideration <br />at our Legislative Goals Conference, to be held at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetreville on <br />January 5-6, 1995. These goals have been divided into seven categories: Human Services (13); <br />Public Education (9); Taxation and Finance (10); General Government (8); Planning, Economic <br />Development and Land Use (4); Environmental Protection (5); and Corrections and Criminal <br />Justice (6). <br /> <br />These goals were approved by the Board at its meeting November 29. They were submitted to <br />the Boa.rd by the Legislative Goals Committee, co-chaired by Commissioners Margaret Arbuclde <br />of Guilford County and Bobby Greet of New Hanover County. The Legislative Goals Committee <br />met on four occasions through October and November to review recommendations from <br />Association Steering Committees involving approximately 100 proposals submitted by member <br />counties and others. At the suggestion of the Legislative Goals Committee, those proposals <br />involving expenditures of state or local revenues are marked with asterisks. The conference in <br />Fayetteville represents the conclusion of a very important educational and consensus-building part <br />of our Association's mission. <br /> <br />We ask that you try to consider and discuss these proposals in the month between your receipt <br />of them and our Conference in Fayetteville. Unlike previous situations, the scheduling of the <br />Legislative Goals Conference allows time for review. We hope you will ask our staff and <br />Association leaders for additional information and background relevant to these and other issues <br />in the period leading up to the Fayetteville Conference. In addition, the Legislative Goals <br />Conference has been extended to include a two-hour open discussion period from 10:00 a.m. to <br />noon on Thursday, January 5. <br /> <br />You have received Registration Information with reference to the Legislative Goals Conference <br />in Fayetteville.
