PROPOSED GOALS - 1995 <br /> PUBLIC EDUCATION <br /> <br />State Tax for School Capital Needs <br />Seek legislation to authorize counties to enact a local option sales tax for school capital needs. <br /> <br />County/School Board Dispute Resolution <br />Seek legislation to modify the procedures for resolution of funding disputes between Boards of <br />County Commissioners and Education. <br /> <br />*School Bus Replacement <br />Support legislation to continue full state funding of the schedule for replacement of school buses, <br />including over-age buses. <br /> <br />*Fundina for Exceptional Children Proerams <br />Support legislation to remove statutory caps on state funding for exceptional children's programs. <br /> <br />County Condemnation of School Sites <br />Support legislation to allow counties to act as the condemnation agent when acquiring sites for <br />joint use by school boards and other public agencies. <br /> <br />Condemnation for School Property <br />Seek legislation to raise the cap on the size of sites for which the local Board of Education can <br />condemn property for schools. <br /> <br />*School Maintenance Workers <br />Seek legislation to provide state funding to pay school maintenance workers in light of the state's <br />responsibility for current expense funding in public education. <br /> <br />*State Fundinz <br />Support legislation to maintain state educational expenditures, as follows: <br /> <br />· statewide funding to improve early childhood education; <br />· support for the state's community colleges and technical institutes, to remedy adult illiteracy and <br />provide technical preparation for our future work force; <br />· full state funding of the Basic Education Program; <br />· full state funding of the Low Wealth Supplemental Funding Program and the small Schools <br />Fund; and <br />· continued state funding of the Critical Needs Fund. <br /> <br />School Employee Salaries <br />Support legislation to assure that the state maintains a sequential salary schedule for all school <br />employees. <br /> <br />-- 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
