Prac-
tices were held each weekday at various sites across the
county from mid-March until the local Senior Games began in
May. The Cabarrus Senior Games featured a SilverArts dis-
play of visual, literary and heritage arts from 31 participants.
Also included in the local Games was a SilverStrider's Fun
Walk that followed the Opening Ceremonies at the Cabarrus
County Senior Center. The Fun Walk is a 1 mile event that is
non-competitive and attracted over 50 participants. Thc
Cabarms Senior Games were held at various facilities across
the county and required a 6-day schedule. Over 200 spectators
attended the ceremonies and events. The Senior Games week
ended with a Closing Ceremonies dinner and dance which
were attended by over 80 participants.

In June an Ice Cream Social was held in honor of all of
the local participants. This event was held at the David H.
Murdock Center and attracted approximately 50 people.

Forty-eight Cabarrus Senior Games participants will
represent Cabarras County at the North Carolina Senior
Games State Finals in Raleigh in October.

Special Events

Holiday Highlight -December - Weather plagued this fifth
annual event and caused one postponement. When this cel-
ebration with lights, music, and hot air balloons was held,
more than 2,000 persons attended.

Westernfest - A new spring event at Frank Liske Park.
Westernfest included a Jr. Rodeo, carriage rides, souvenirs,
line dancing, and music. The rodeo drew competitions from
surrounding counties as well as one rider from Virginia and
one from Maryland. The rodeo was for participants 8 ~ 18
years old. Many events were offered with great participation
in each. Approximately 500 spectators and participants were
on hand for this event.

12
