39. <br /> <br />40. <br /> <br />41. <br /> <br />42. <br /> <br />43. <br /> <br />44. <br /> <br />45. <br /> <br />46. <br /> <br />47. <br /> <br />48. <br /> <br />49. <br /> <br />agricultural waste and certain characteristics of wastewater (e.g., Ph, <br />temperature, TSS, turbidity, color, BCD, COD, toxicity, or odor). <br /> <br />POTW Treatment Plant shall mean that portion of the POTW designed to <br />provide treatment to wastewater. <br /> <br />Pretreatment or Treatment shall mean the reduction of the amount of <br />pollutants, the elimination of pollutants, or the alteration of the <br />nature of pollutant properties in wastewater to a less harmful state <br />prior to or in lieu of discharging or otherwise introducing such <br />pollutants into a POTW. The reduction or alteration can be obtained by <br />physical, chemical and biological processes, or process changes or <br />other means, except by diluting the concentration of the pollutants <br />unless allowed by an applicable pretreatment standard. <br /> <br />Pretreatment Program shall mean the program for the control of <br />pollutants introduced into the POTW from nondomestic sources which was <br />developed by the Water & Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County in <br />compliance with 40 CFR 403.8 and approved by the State in accordance <br />with 40 CFR 403.11. <br /> <br />Pretreatment Requirements <br />requirement related to <br />standard. <br /> <br />shall mean any substantive or procedural <br />pretreatment, other than a pretreatment <br /> <br />Pretreatment Standards shall mean the prohibited discharge standards, <br />categorical standards, and local limits. <br /> <br />Process Wastewater shall mean any water which, during manufacturing or <br />processing, comes into direct contact with or results from the <br />production of or use of any raw material, intermediate product, <br />finished product, byproduct, or waste product. <br /> <br />Properly Shredded Garbage shall mean the wastes from the preparation, <br />cooking and dispensing of food that have been shredded to such degree <br />that all particles will be carried freely under the flow conditions <br />normally prevailing in public sewers, with no particle greater than <br />one-half inch in any dimension. <br /> <br />Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) shall mean a treatment works as <br />defined by Section 212 of the Act, (33 U.S.C. 1292) which is owned in <br />this instance by the Authority. This definition includes any devices <br />or systems used in the collection, storage, treatment, recycling, and <br />reclamation of municipal sewage or industrial wastes of a liquid <br />nature. It also includes sewers, pipes, and other conveyances only if <br />they convey wastewater to the POTW treatment plant. For the purposes <br />of this article, "POTW" shall also include any sewers that convey <br />wastewaters to the POTW from persons outside the Authority who are, by <br />contract or agreement with the Authority, or in any other way, users of <br />the Authority's POTW. <br /> <br />Sanitary Sewer shall mean a sewer intended to receive domestic sewage <br />and industrial waste, except that of type expressly prohibited by this <br />article, without the admixture of surface water and stormwater. <br /> <br />Septage or septic tank sludge shall mean the liquid and/or solids from <br />septic tanks which contain no wastewater other than domestic. <br /> <br />Severe Property Damage shall mean substantial physical damage to <br />property, damage to the user's treatment facilities which causes them <br />to become inoperable, or substantial and permanent loss of natural <br />resources which can reasonably be expected to occur in the absence of <br />a bypass. Severe property damage does not mean economic loss caused by <br />delays in production. <br /> <br />38 <br /> <br /> <br />
