September 5, 1995 <br /> <br />Proposed Change to Article VI~ Leaves of Absence, of the Cabarrus County Personnel <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />Section 28. Educational Leave <br /> <br />From: <br /> <br />A leave of absence with or without pay during regular working hours may be granted to a <br />pe~-manent full-time employee to take one course per semester which will better equip the <br />employee to perform assigned duties upon the recommendation of the department head, and with <br />the approval of the County Manager. If leave with pay is elected, the employee shall be required <br />to reimburse the County for the time away from work necessary for attendance in the course, if <br />the employee terminates employment with the County within a time period specified by the <br />County Manager. <br /> <br />Employees who are eligible for the educational incentive program, as contained in Appendix G, <br />shall not be eligible for educational leave with pay. <br /> <br />To: <br /> <br />An educational leave of absence, with or without pay, may be granted to a regular full-time <br />employee to take one course per semester or term which will better equip the employee to <br />perform job related duties. Each request would have to be approved by the department head and <br />the County Manager. Leave will be granted to only attend institutions accredited by the Southern <br />Association of Colleges and Schools. An employee granted educational leave with pay shall agree <br />in writing to return to their regular work schedule with the county upon completion of training <br />and to remain in the employ of the county for a period equal to twice the educational leave <br />received, or to reimburse the county for all compensation received while on educational leave and <br />tuition costs reimbursed to the employee for the course. <br /> <br />An employee on educational leave with full pay shall continue to earn leave credits and any other <br />benefits to which county employees are entitled. An employee on educational leave with partial <br />pay shall earn proportional leave credits and benefits. <br /> <br />Employees who are eligible for the educational incentive program, as contained in Appendix G, <br />shall not be eligible for educational leave with pay. <br /> <br />Reimbursement for Tuition, Fees and Books <br /> <br />An employee may receive reimbursement for one (1) course at a time (including those taken <br />outside of working hours) which will better equip the employee to perform assigned duties, <br />subject to the approval of the department head and the County Manager. The county shall <br />reimburse the employee for tuition costs (up to $400), provided the employee submits a receipt of <br />tuition expenses and a notice of successful completion (passing grade or better) of the course <br />from institution accredited by the Southern Association of'Colleges and Schools. <br /> <br /> <br />
