Mayor Liles of Concord said <br />"the Lake Concord area will make an ideal park for the <br />county."Jeff Bamhart, Chairman of the Cabarrus County <br />Board of Commissioners, said "the County badly needs <br />to expand parks and recreation opportunities. We have <br />been struggling and trying to set more land aside for <br />parks. We believe and our consultants believe that Lake <br />Concord is the number one site." On May 17, 1995, the <br />City of Kannapolis and Cabarrus County signed a letter <br />of intent that will lead to cheaper water rates for newly <br />annexed areas of the city and a park at Lake Concord. A <br />stipulation of the letter of intent is that the City of <br />Kannapolis will pay $390,000 to Cabarrus County over <br />a period of three years to develop a County Park at Lake <br />Concord. <br /> <br />Fulfillment of the first phase of the transfer of responsi- <br />bilities agreement with youth athletic associations. Have <br />developed the roll of a facilitator and coordinator while <br />continuing to maintain facilities, secure facilities, and <br />administrative duties. <br /> <br />Implementation of a new Jr. Tennis Program, co-spon- <br />sored with the Concord Tennis Association and the <br />Concord Parks and Recreation Department. The new <br />program drew 84 junior players. <br /> <br />Certification of 352 coaches through the National Youth <br />Sports Coaches Association. This represents an increase <br />of 153 coaches from the previous year. <br /> <br />In conjuncture with the Special Programs Division, a <br />successful sports camps series. Camps were held in <br />basketball, baseball, softball and soccer. <br /> <br />Implemented a new fitness program called Trail Busters. <br />It's a program designed for all ages to utilize all the <br />park's trails and encourage passive exercise. <br /> <br />Increased Summer Camp enrollment by 33%. <br /> <br />Increased public awareness and developed good work- <br />ing relationship with local cable station gaining regular <br />coverage for programs and special events. <br /> <br />Increased coverage in newspapers through one-on-one <br />networking and discussion concerning the best avenue <br />to reach our audience. <br /> <br /> <br />
